WEEKEND ORCHARD

Some people are fortunate to own an orchard, especially one kept as a hobby. Tee Kok Tong is one of these people. He has an orchard along the Tasik Alai Road near Buloh Kasap, which has durians, mangosteens, lime, pineapples, langsats, papayas, rambutans and even chili padi. Almost every common fruit in Malaysia is here.

Top-grafted durian trees

Top-grafted durian trees giving very high quality durians. The cuttings were grafted onto an existing durian tree to shorten the time to mature fruiting.

This is an interesting orchard as there are chicken and geese running around. The proud owner is able to consume farm-fresh eggs which are "natural". The animals are fed corn as basic feed. Until recently, there was even a seven-foot ostrich here. However, the ostrich has been moved to another location, so we were not able to get any pictures of it.

Kok Tong brings his family to his farm on a regular basis. Fresh air and wonderful fruits lead to a healthy lifestyle.

One of the cocks proudly displaying itself for the camera. There seems to be about 60-80 geese & chicken around the place.

This farm is fortunate to have electricity, water and even a phone. Not bad for an outdoor life. These basic amenities lend some civilization to an isolated place like this farm near Tasik Alai.

Nice place to visit but bring mosquitoe repellants or wear appropriate clothes.

Another orchard view. These are durian trees but note the banana trees in the background. Another orchard view
