Segamat's Second
Bridge

Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, in Segamat, said that the Federal Government has
allocated RM5 million to build a second bridge across Sungai Segamat to ease traffic
congestion in Segamat town.
Samy Vellu said the completion of the bridge would further benefit local residents as it
would spur development in the area.
"The second bridge is essential as various housing projects, shopping centres and
office complexes are coming up in Segamat Baru," he told reporters after launching
the Labis-Segamat MIC division's Koperasi Didek fund yesterday.
Samy Vellu said Segamat was already facing serious traffic congestion.
He said the second bridge would not only serve to bring Segamat Lama and Segamat Baru
closer but also help disperse traffic from the town centre.
He said there had been many requests from Barisan Nasional elected representatives for a
second bridge across the river.
