RM3m set aside for relief aid

Thursday, September 24, 1998, New Straits Times.

The State Government has allocated RM3 million in relief aid for potential victims of the monsoon flood season, that is expected to plague the state from October to January.

The floods this year are also expected to be further aggravated by weather changes resulting from the La Nina phenomenon.

Apart from food, clothing and other relief aid, a total of 352 flood relief centres will be set up throughout the State, capable of sheltering 100,000 flood victims.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the weekly State Executive Council meeting here today, Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said that 79 such centres were in Segamat, which is the district most prone to floods.
