Husband-friendly district hospitals to be introduced

Monday, September 7, 1998, New Straits Times.

By Sim Bak Heng

JOHOR BARU, Sun. - The Health Ministry will introduce husband-friendly hospitals in the country to allow husbands to be present when their wives undergo labour.

It's minister, Datuk Chua Jui Meng, said a pilot project which began in Seremban General Hospital recently had shown encouraging results with an average of 400, out of 700 husbands, wanting to be present with their wives during delivery.

He said other district hospitals which had also taken the same approach include Ipoh, Alor Gajah, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat and Pontian.

Two more, one in Segamat and another in Johor Baru, are scheduled to commence next year.
