SEGAMAT: Local police are advertising their hotline numbers on eight billboards in housing estates in the district to ensure members of the public have the numbers handy. OCPD Supt Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said the billboards were another way for the police to work with the community in fighting crime. “Many people here do not know how to contact the police when they face an emergency.
“Through the billboards placed at strategic locations in the district, we hope to reach out to the people and that they will key in the numbers in their cellphones,” he said, adding that the hotlines were manned round the clock. Majid said the police had received 20 calls from the public since the billboards were put up a week ago. “Within this short time, we have received a positive response and this should help us better fight crime in Segamat,” he said.
He said the RM6,000 billboard project was sponsored by Johor Chinese Chamber chairman Tan Sri Lim Bah. “We thank him for being supportive of our community policing project,” said Majid. The billboards are located in Segamat Baru, Taman Yayasan, Taman Yayasan 2, Bukit Siput, Jalan Genuang, Jalan Ibrahim, Bandar Putra and outside the Segamat police headquarters. The hotline numbers are 07-932 4222 or 07-221 2999.{jcomments on}
