Segamat Flood Warning Dec 2011
Over the last few weeks, the government has been on flood alert due to the predicted bad weather for Nov/Dec. We have seen floods in Thailand, Terengganu , Kelantan, Kuantan, Kajang, Kuala Lumpur and parts of Johor. However, Segamat was not affected. Segamat river's water level has been hovering around the 4.5m level since the 11th Dec 2011.
Over the last 2 days, we started to get heavier rain and more frequently too. This has caused Segamat river to rise dramatically to 6.94m as of 10am, 18th Dec 2001. This is a dramatic rise in just 2 days. It is quickly approaching the alert level of 8.7m. From past experience, we know that Segamat river's water level can rise very quickly.
We will keep an eye on the river level now as it will only take a few more days of heavy rain to see a possible return of flood like the one in Feb 2011.
Another danger area in Segamat is Sungai Muar at Kg. Awat. It's water level is currently at 19.7m and this has already passed the alert level of 19.35m.
