Con men impersonating welfare officer

SEGAMAT: Several welfare officers from the Segamat Welfare Office are in trouble as their names are being used to con senior citizens and the physically-challenged who have applied for government housing schemes.
Segamat police quarters ready

SEGAMAT: After a 10-year wait the quarters of the Segamat District police headquarters is finally ready.
The first batch of occupants will move into the quarters at Km3, Jalan Segamat-Muar, here, next month. Work on the RM17.7 million quarters began about 10 years ago but technical problems led to the contractor being issued a stop-work order.
Fire guts chemical factory
From NST Online SEGAMAT: Security guards at a chemical factory in Jalan Labis here were jolted by six explosions, which was followed by a fire that razed the factory on Monday.
At the time of the 1.45am incident, Nordin Ali, 62, and his colleague Ahmad Fuad Ali, 52, said they were patrolling the compound when the factory caught fire. Nordin said he immediately alerted his supervisor, who managed to drive out a car and three lorries before the buildings were consumed by the flames.{jcomments on}
Lions Club Segamat Blood Donation Drive, a success!
Lions Club Segamat held a blood donation drive for Segamat Hospital Blood Bank yesterday at Kip Mart Segamat. It had a good turnout with 138 bags collected. The target for Lions Club was 100 bags.
High water will trigger flood siren

Installed at the cost of RM200,000 in 2005, it is the only warning system in the area.’s 15,000 residents. The solar-powered facility is maintained by the Segamat Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID). District DID engineer Chiam Shiun Shu said the sound of the siren on the system will be triggered when the water level in Sungai Jenaling exceeds 11 metres and the sound could be heard 3km away. “Water will enter a pipe installed in the banks of Sungai Jenaling. When the water level exceeds 11 metres, it automatically activates the siren.send a signal through a mechanism that would activate the signal.
Segamat flood Update 2011 Dec 24th
It has been raining on and off over the last 24 hours and the river level has dropped from a high of 9.6m to 8.74m as of 3pm today. People are still worried but after a few days of following the river level trends, it gets a bit tiring and feels like following the stock market. :)
For those coming back to Segamat for the holidays, the roads back to Segamat are open for now. Please watch out for big pot holes. They are everywhere, even in town.
