SEGAMAT: Cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny dressed in cheongsams and samfus are appearing on many Chinese New Year decorations to usher the Year of the Rabbit.

Other than the famous characters, other animated rabbit characters such as Thumper from Walt Disney’s Bambi was also featured in many wall hangings and posters accompanied with lucky Chinese characters.

Shop attendant Norazlin Zainuddin, 23, said the decorations featuring cartoon rabbits were snapped up by shoppers since it arrived last week.

“Many people are already gearing up for Chinese New Year and these cute hangings are a popular buy,” she said.

Norazlin works at the De Fairytales florist and gift shop located in Jalan Ros here.

She said many children also liked the decorative hangings which come in many shapes and sizes.

“The most popular are the decorative hangings that feature Bugs Bunny holding up a scroll which reads Happy Chinese New Year or other wishes for the new year,” she said.

She added shoppers were also purchasing other items including gold rabbit statues and lanterns with rabbit motifs.

“Other than that, shoppers also like to buy statues of the God of Posperity or ancient Chinese gold coins which is said to bring good luck and prosperity,” she said.

Norazlin said her shop could sell up to 50 items a day and business was picking up very fast this year.

“Hopefully, this good streak will continue throughout the year,” she said.
