TANGKAK: A new RM200mil road connecting Tangkak and Segamat is being built to cut travelling time between the two towns by half, district officer Amran Abdul Rahman told the Sultan of Johor. In a briefing for the Ruler during the Sultan’s visit here yesterday, Amran said the current travelling time of about an hour will be halved when the road is completed. 

He said besides the road project, the Ledang district would have a new administrative centre as well as a “furniture city” to speed up its economic growth. The “furniture city” would house more than 200 exhibition lots and showrooms for furniture makers to promote and sell their products.

The visit by Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Iskandar here is part of his Kembara Mahkota royal roadshow across Johor to meet his subjects. The first phase, from June 26 to 28, saw the Sultan travelling in a train for three days. In the second phase, launched in Pontian on Friday and expected to end today, he will traverse six districts.

Besides the development briefing at the Ledang district office, the Sultan also visited the Ledang Community College where he showed his skills in baking a pizza and some wafer biscuits.

The Ruler, accompanied by his son, Tunku Mahkota Tuanku Ismail Ibrahim, toured various departments at the college. Present were Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and state secretary Datuk Latif Yusof.

The Sultan later left for Sagil.
