Below are four living testimonies of those who had their cancer diagnosed during the College of Radiology’s Value Added Mammogram Programme in Segamat in 2006-2007. Thanks to the funding provided by our sponsors, the CMP has been organised for Segamat and the surrounding areas for several years now with the collaboration of the Breast Cancer Support Society Segamat and the IIUM Breast Centre in Kuantan.

PS’s Story

I felt a lump in my left breast during self examination. I went to the BCSS for help and they recommended me to IIUM Kuantan for a mammogram with CoR subsidising the cost of the scan, free transport and also the cost of needle biopsy.

After confirming my diagnosis, they also arranged my operation for me. Since my family is in Batu Pahat, they were very kind to refer me to the Batu Pahat Government Hospital. A left mastectomy was done on 20/8/07 and I have undergone the full treatment.

Thanks to

  1. my support group in Segamat
  2. College of Radiology
  3. IIUM
  4. BCSS
  5. Caring individuals and groups.

Early detection saves life is my advice to everyone.

LK’s Story

I attended the BCSS road show at Villa Hotel in 2007. I took the opportunity to fill a form for a subsidised mammogram in IIUM with the help of BCSS. To both my relief and horror, the mammogram was positive. The surgical biopsy confirmed I had breast cancer and the surgeon advised a mastectomy. I had my operation and was treated at Stage I. The CoR, IIUM and BCSS have benefited me and helped to detect my cancer very early. Thanks to all of you. I am now on the road to recovery.

TAW’s Story

I am 55 years old with 6 children aged 18-31 years. I am on medication for depression. I have very good support from my husband’s family. I had a cousin who died of breast cancer a few years ago. I went for a mammogram in IIUM, the CMP by CoR which subsidised the costs.

I was confirmed positive for breast cancer. The operation was arranged by IIUM. I had a mastectomy done in January 2007 and was at Stage 2. I completed my chemotherapy and am now on Tamoxifen for the next 5 years.

Thank you to my family, support group, CoR, IIUM and others who have enabled this CMP!

LAL’s Story

I felt a lump in my right breast in 2007. I went to a GP and my sister advised me to go to BCSS. With the help of BCSS, I had everything arranged for me and thanks to my family and friends for their good support. After going through the process of investigation, breast cancer was confirmed and I had a right mastectomy done on 20th September 2007 in Mahkota Hospital Melaka.

A million thanks to CoR for their good work and also thanks to the generous and kind IIUM, BCSS and caring individuals and groups.

I was discovered at Stage II. Early detection saved my life.
