At 11.30 each morning, two dedicated teachers arrive from Labis to open up and welcome a group of very special students. At the moment, there are 9 students, ranging in age from 3 - 12 years of age.

After arriving at the centre, they take their lunch and have a shower. This is the start of their daily program in which they are encouraged to be as independent as possible. Just in these two areas, students have made some major progress, including one student who can now eat a full meal of chicken rice, where before she could only take food mixed with water.

The centre currently operates between 12 and 5pm and during this time, students are given educational activities and therapies that will help them learn as much as they are able. There are three small groups operating at the moment and students are placed according to their needs. For the more capable students, the program teaches them basic reading, writing and maths skills, along with art, music, social skills, physical exercise and some sensory activities. For less capable students, the teachers provide a program that focuses on self-help skills, art and play therapy, movement, music and communication.

The centre itself operates as a home away from home for the children. It is here they can feel comfortable and accepted and have their educational needs met as well. The two teachers are currently undertaking training through the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and are well prepared to educate and care for the children.

The centre operates by relying on generous donations from the public. They need to cover everything from teacher salaries to classroom equipment to office supplies. Any amount is welcome and greatly appreciated and donations can be made by contacting committee member Lim Meng Kai on 0127126333.
